EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) - We officially leave 2020 behind, which means a fresh start in 2021.

A new study by Cambridge University shows around 32 percent of active people fell off the healthy lifestyle bandwagon in the pandemic.

We spoke with a personal trainer at the YMCA who says it’s important to set small goals that are attainable, especially if you haven’t worked out or eaten healthy in months.

If you’re worried about going back to the gym in the pandemic, the Y is offering virtual classes for you to workout form the comfort of your living room.

If you’re looking to lose weight, one trainer we spoke with says the best type of workout is circuit training.

They say it doesn’t matter how much you go to the gym to get back into shape. It’s more about what you’re putting on your plate.

”It doesn’t matter, you can work out 10 times a week. If you’re stopping off at McDonalds on the way home or something like that, it’s not going to do you very good. Nutrition, but more importantly hydration - water, water, water,” said personal trainer Atlas Allen.

If you’re wondering if you should count calories, macros, or portion control, try finding something that fits your lifestyle. No one plan works for everyone.

The YMCA says they continue to ask everyone to socially distance inside their facilities and are sanitizing machines between each person.
